Julija Karlovšek

About the painter.....

Julija Karlovšek was born in Slovenia, where she lived until the age of 34, studied law and devoted herself to business management. Once in a while, she picked up a paintbrush and the result was two exhibitions and several works of art that adorned several homes in Slovenia and Croatia.

When she moved to Switzerland, she quickly rediscovered her love for painting and aesthetics. In the painting studio of painter Naci Kocaslan in Altdorf, Switzerland, she sharpened her skills and discovered the painting styles she loved. This was followed by participation in several exhibitions in Switzerland, and in parallel, a new collection of modern ornaments in Slovenia, which was developed by revisiting the heritage of her grandfather Jože Karlovšek and Slovenian ornaments. This was followed by two high-profile exhibitions in Slovenia entitled "Beauty in Slovenian", which completed her work in the field of more modern artistic interpretation of ornaments.

Although ornaments as "decorators" of homes will always remain part of her inspiration and artistic path, she has recently turned her attention to painting in the "pop art" style. This modern style of colorful paintings with (semi-)abstract motifs, which is increasingly coming to the forefront of art, is where Julia finds herself now. Vivid colors, abstraction, contrasts and provocative motifs (especially of women and women's faces) is the central thread of Julia's work in this period.

In addition to her own work, she also passes on her love of painting to children. She runs workshops for children aged 4 to 12, encouraging each participant to choose their own motif and method of painting, and giving individual support to the development of each painting and each little talent. Her motto is: "Every person and every child can paint, you just have to find the right technique and the right way. We all carry art within us - it just needs to be expressed.”

About the painting technique....

Painting technique is painting with acrylic paints on canvas. When painting, she often plays with other materials, such as texture paste, sand, and her favorite addition: gold leaf. Gold is the color of abundance and glamour. A painting with gold leaf brings warmth and a feeling of comfort into a room.

Some paintings are framed in a so-called 'Floating Frame', in black or white.
